Opening Day at Maplewood Country Club

May 13th

Thank you to Barbara Colin for hosting us at the beautiful Maplewood Country Club (with its always delicious lunches!)

Maplewood Country Club enjoys a meticulously groomed 18-hole, par 71 golf course that plays to 6425 yards from the back tees.  The course was designed and built by Alfred Williams in 1919.  Reflecting its era as a Golden Age design, MCC is a challenging course but meant to be enjoyed round-after-round.

Fun fact, the first patented and marketed tee was invented by another dentist named Dr. William Lowell, a member of Maplewood CC.  Dr. Lowell’s patented “Reddy Tee” is the first modern golf tee.  The familliar one piece wooden peg with hollowed out top became the standard even today.  Dr. Lowell even had golf great Walter Hagen advertising his invention.

The Pinehurst Championship At Bedens Brook and Cherry Valley

June 17th and June 18th

This season, the Pinehurst Championship will be played across 2 days on 2 different courses. Day 1 will be hosted by Martha Sword and Jessica Koehler at the classic Bedens Brook Club. Bedens Brook is a Dick Wilson design on a rolling landscape with natural water hazards and classic greens. Each nine holes offers a different view and strategy with the front nine offering open rolling fairways and the back nine a challenge through the woods. Both nines offer classic Dick Wilson signature bunkers. Day 2 will be hosted by Susan Sardi and Kathy Rosenberg at the challenging Cherry Valley Country Club. Playing a round at Cherry Valley reveals the seamless blend of landscape and design philosophy by native New Jerseyan Rees Jones. This course, not only challenging but visually stunning, embodies Jones's commitment to working with the natural contours of the land. Rolling hills and captivating woodlands frame each hole, showcasing a harmonious integration that respects both the environment and player enjoyment. From strategically placed bunkers to well-contoured greens, Cherry Valley offers a uniquely engaging experience, combining thoughtful shot selection with aesthetic pleasures. Playing here is more than golf; it's a journey through time, a testament to Rees Jones's incredible designs, and an unforgettable experience that resonates long after the final round.
